QUEST SPOILERS!

I'm currently doing the ultimate heist quest - this is my first run through of oblivion, so please no spoilers outside this quest! - and i'm at the part where I need to shoot the arrow of extrication into the statue. I stand at the pressure plate, shoot a practice arrow, line it up correctly - and I can't equip the extrication arrow! I've looked at different sites trying to find an answer and have tried unequipping and reeqiupping my weapons, arrows, and even my armor. It just tells me that I can't fire the arrow (it's a 'quest arrow'). Anyone have any ideas? Can I fix this with the console?

You stand on the pressure plate, it activate the statue's mechanism and it does it's stuff, then the target is visible from the plate. You equip the arrow, load up your bow and fire?

If you did all that then I really don't know what could be the problem.

If it's telling you you can't use it because it's a quest arrow, my guess is that the journal entry required to trigger its use hasn't been activated yet. (a relatively common problem in ES games.) What was your last journal entry under that quest?

The most recent journal entry involves standing on the pressure plate and firing a few practice arrows before I fire the extrication arrow because I will only get one shot. In case my first post was confusing, I can not even equip the arrow of extrication (message displays that says: "you can not fire this quest arrow" when I click on it). Any ideas?

If there is a console command that will just open the relevant door, I'm willing to do that as I don't consider it cheating to get around a bug.

Unless they changed the console commands substantially from Morrowind to Oblivion, an Unlock command should deal with the door. Or maybe not if it's not lock but scripted to stay closed.

Depends on how they scripted the whole thing.

The console commands are a little different to Morrowind. I can't help you there, sorry.

IIRC, the journal entry you described is the last one you'll recieve before you actually fire the arrow and open the door. Therefore its likely a bug. I'll check up on it tonight.

Well, I kept messing around with it (using old savegames) and finally managed to equip the arrow and move past it. I don't know what the problem was, but my game is progressing.
