Well recharging enchanted weapons annoys me. Would I be absolutely ruining the game and playing on 'easy-mode' if I installed a mod that would allow weapons to never lose charges? I amn't far enough to know if the effects on my experience if I do choose to use this. What do you guys think?

Edit: I don't mean staves and wands with 'shooting' powers. I can live with them have charges. I mean like for my sword I got that has some 'onhit' effects. I feel it is a pain having to recharge it every so often.

Yeah, you would be kinda cheating. What's the big deal ? The enchantment is all used up ? The sword still cuts your enemies up good, doesn't it ? That's all you'll ever need. Repair the bitch and move on.

Edit: If it's enchantments you're after, don't worry, you'll find plenty in the time ahead of you.

Well no it doesn't cut them up so good now that it's wasted. My generic blade does more damage but I used this one for the enchants on it. I don't even know how or where to recharge items to be honest...I have heard the mage guild does it if you learn the skill but I don't really want to as it doesn't suit my character to learn enchanting. Are there shopkeepers who will just recharge items for you? I know there are wells or shrines or somethin that do it too.

Yep, they're all across the wilderness. Don't freak out when your out of enchantments on your weapon dude, even without an enchantment, you should be able to keep your enemies off. If you're not too sure about your weapon, make sure you have more than one equiped. I always had a sword, a mace, and a bow with plenty of arrows equiped wherever i went, just to be on the safe side.

Don't forget your repairhammers btw, they might be crucial.

You can recharge your weapons enchantment in three ways.

</font>
  1. Soultrap a creature, scroll to its gem, click once...you'll be given the option of which item you wish to recharge.</font>
  2. Go to the Mage's Guild. It's a merchant-option, so talk to everyone and click on the one with the merchant option symbol that looks like of like the blade of a sword with a star superimposed on it.</font>
  3. Go crawling through Eyeleid Ruins to find a Varla Stone, which completely refills all magical items in your inventory.</font>

Nah I wasn't freaking out or anything just kinda like "Gah!" when I realized my new red sword has a frequent expiry date :( . I know it's a simple matter of getting it recharged every now and then but I just don't like to have yet another thing to micro-manage.

I mean, I could deal with paying an automatic fee daily to keep my weapon charged (one that is just done in the background and deducted from my gold) but I don't like the fact that if I forget, I could embark on a quest with no magic left in it and have to go charge it and then I'm kinda eyeing the charges in my inven. with fear and then I keel over and sob etc...

I am considering this mod still but I will play by the book firstly to see how much it bothers me. If it isn't as bad as I think then i'll change nothing. I am just concerned I will mess up my game balance. I don't cheat with godmode codes or anything, but at times I will change certain aspects which I deem unnecessary in a game that for me personally, prove more annoying than fun. Currently, I use that encumberance mod allowing me to carry more stuff and that one that makes items need repairing less often and haven't looked back. For this one though I will wait and see.

There is a console code that will give you Varla Stones and each one will
recharge every magic weapon in your inventory when you click on it or by
putting them in your quick menu and hitting the number you put them in.
The forum at the unoffical Elderscrolls had this console command posted.

CHEAT SPOILER ALERT Below
<><><><><><><><><><><

If you use this enter exactally as shown Below.

First hit the tild Key ~
Then type with all spaces

Player.additem 00000194 12
__________________________________________________ ______________________
This will place 12 Varla stones in your inventory and for all players that
can't recharge their own weapons you can recharge your Magic weapons all at
the same time on the run.

I'm a level 65 Battle Mage and don't need this to recharge my weapons but I
know how it is when your weapon runs out of juice when you don't have powerful
magic spells & weapons to fall back on so I hope this helps somebody.

Magic weapons do lose their charges quite fast, usuallly faster than it take to complete a dungeon, but at high level about every humanoid has a magic weapon so you can use those disposable weapons.

What botter me the most is actually the recharge cost. You're better off using soul gems or stones from ruins than paying the mages.

Ilander 04-21-2006 01:13 PM

Yeah, it's highway robbery, Luvian...the only time I ever bothered, I got raped out of nearly 5K gold...and that was just to recharge Umbra and Rumare's Vengeance...Ultimately, I've found that I really only want to keep charge on the latter, because Soul Trap is often wasted with my character, who tends to fight big mean things with few or no big, mean soul gems...and especially no black ones!

SpiritWarrior 04-21-2006 09:54 PM

Yeah I ended up using CB's console command (thanks for that). I use it when I need it and I use conventional methods when it is convenient.
