One thing Bethesda is trying to do is reduce
the Min Ram requirements so a larger group
of people will be able to play without need
of up grading your computers but for now its:

Pent III 1.0 Mhtz
512 min Ram
1 Gig Ram or better recomended.

If you have less than 512 its choppy and
locks up so, hopefully they will be able to
reduce the min requirements for all those
still using pent III or IV with less than
512 ram.

From what I understand they are going to
release an Offical FAQ with all computer
requirements before the end of Feburary.

Cheers Crimson, I was under the impression that a whole refurbishment of my comp would be needed, but with those specs it should run smoothly.

Only problem now is explaining to the g/f why she's not gonna see me for a few months ;)

Really? Judging from those beautiful and breath taking screenshots that I've looked so far. I would have thought that the requirement might be very very high. Well, this is certainly a good news.

Those specs seem suspiciously low o_O .

I mean, anything less than that would struggle to run Morrowind properly on full settings! I would expect the combination of RAI and advanced environmental effects to require a heftier processor than a PIII running at 1GHz... But then again, I really know next to nothing about hardware :D . Surely a relatively high-end graphics card will be necessary however. Whatever happens, I can't see how Bethesda will manage to make Oblivion a cheap deal for anyone still running a pre-2005 system (i.e. a similar setup to the one CrimsomBlade suggested).

Sorry to be so cynical :D !

*sigh, I believed they were going to release the game before the end of Feb. First fiscal quarter 2006 anyone?

Remember gang what I posted is in no way offical but is what Bethesda has been testing the game on. I know they were having some trouble running it on Pent III with less than 1.2Ghtz at 256 ram and at 1.0 Ghtz they were using an nvidea 3200 with 512 RDRam and the graphics were ok once you turn down your Video Card exceleration and setting every thing on auto detect seems to work OK but, If you want The best game play you'll need a High end Microprocessor with the best Video card with 256 Ram on card or better and 1 to 2 Gig of DDR SDRAM. With this High end Equipment the trees look alive like you won't ever believe and at low end the graphics are still better than most everything I've ever seen.

It would be nice if Bethesda can make the
min requirements the same as call of
Cthulhu like a PC with minimum specification
of P3 500Mhz, a 32mb Direct 3D compatible
graphics card and 128mb RAM. to allow users
of lower end machines to thoroughly enjoy
the game.
It drives me crazy how alot of the PC
Game developers can design a number of
new games that tend to leave a large
number of people out in the dark each
year with their games requireing only
higher level computers the ability to
play them. It tends to make me believe
that they get kick backs from the
computer companies to make their games
so high end that each year it requires
you to upgrade yours or buy a new computer
in order to Play the games and sell the
newest systems.
One would think that within another 5 to 6
years Computers are going to have systems
in them like:

Pent-6 10Mhz requiring
1 Terabite of DDR SDRAM
ATI 3000xt or nvidia 29000 w/1028 on board Ram
with a 3D projector table like the little
Chess game in Star Wars. Hay that might be
pretty cool if you have the Half million
Dollars needed to pay for the system. Just don't
play the games with Wookies.
