I was swimming from Ebonheart to Seyda Neen, which I had done before, but I ended up slightly off course. I still ended up on the peninsula about halfway there, but I found some cave starting with "A". I went in, and fought some ash slaves and zombies, and found a dead ordinator. I took his boots, since they counted as 102 armor, and went up a rock slope. I found another one, and took his boots since they were valuable. He also had an indoril pauldron (the shoulder armor), which was also 102 armor. I equipped it, but my ac went down 4, even though my current pauldron was only 33 armor. Why did that happen? I eventually found a door that said "(cave's name): Shrine". I went in, fought some people that showed their name as "dreamer". I kept going, went on a path over lava, and fought this big ugly guy with tentacles for a face. I killed him, and he had some 6th house amulet. He was standing in front of a bin of wrapped corpus meat. I found that, the guy's looks, the indoril equipment, and the bells I passed by to fight the guy very strange. Is this some kind of quest area?

not sure, but sounds like it could be. i wouldnt tackle this one at this point. the problem with the pauldrons is disconcerting... did you accidently unequip something important like the cuiress? maybe just a bug. reload, mark the location on your map, and come back later when you get a quest to it (or after you complete the main quest if it doesnt come up)

I've already cleared out the entire place. The ash slaves and zombies reappear whenever I go from one area to another, so I've been killing them. I saved over the file from when I went in.
Nothing was unequipped when I put on the pauldron (except the previous pauldron), there was still the same 4x4 grid of equipped items.

And I noticed a hammer that looked like a master armorer's hammer, but with a long handle. It was some 6th house bell hammer, which explained its location near the bells. It was worth 2000g, so I was going to take it until I noticed that it weighed 75, which was about 75 more weight than I could handle at the time.

The people you are fighting in there have something to do with the main quest. I'm guessing you're not far enough along to know what they're about yet, but you'll find out if you keep on the main quest. I can't recall if that area has a specific quest associated with it, but it's relevant to the main quest anyway.

I'm not sure about the armour thing - was the type of armour (e.g. heavy, medium etc) not what you're best at wearing? If suppose you have 50 skill points in light armour, and 10 in heavy armour, then wearing a light armour piece with 15AC will probably do more for your AC than a heavy piece with 40AC, because it also takes into account your skill at using the armour type. Although putting your AC down to 4 is weird - sounds more like a bug to me.

One thing you should be careful about is wearing ordinator (indoril) armour. In some versions of the game if you put some on, even for a second then take it off, it automatically puts all ordinators offside with you and they attack you on sight forever after. Not a good idea. Even in versions where that doesn't happen (I think there might be a patch or mod that fixes that), wearing it in front of them isn't a good idea I think.

It lowered my AC by, not to, 4. The strangest part is that the boots increased my AC

The AC of an item is relative to your skill. I have over 60 in med. armor, which is what the indoril equipment is, and that's why it's 102.

Does that ordinator bug occur after a patch, or is it just random?

What happens if I wear their armor in front of them? They already call me scum. And you can BUY that armor in Ghostgate, so why would they be mad at me?

Since they attack me first (actually, if they attack me, as I haven't been to anywhere they are since finding the armor), there's no penalty if I kill them, right?

How tough are they? I'm around level 13, with almost 100 in long blade, and I'm using a glass longsword (I think 4-30 damage) with +3-7 cold damage. My AC is around 45. My strength and endurance are both near 100.

WHY CAN'T I PICK UP THE CANDLES??? I WANT THOSE CANDLES!!!

1) wearing indoril armor in front of ordinators will get you attacked in any version of the game. when you take off the armor, you should be okay

2) you would not be breaking the law to defend yourself.

3) they're tough, especially with the difficulty turned up. i doubt you would survive it at this point in the game. i had a sword which did + 60-90 fire damage and they still managed to swarm me and kill me at level 18 one time. in one on one, who knows, but you'll need a better weapon than the one you have.

Sorry, I must have misread your original post about the AC . I dunno then!

Just because you can buy the armour doesn't mean it doesn't happen - it does! Maybe they're selling it to ordinators and not outlanders with a penchant for indoril ;) . Yes, you won't get in trouble for killing ordinators if they attack you first, but I don't really think it would be that pleasant to travel around Vivec (or Molag Mar for that matter) being attacked by every ordinator that comes along. There's a lot of them (and they might respawn... dunno about that though)! I think it would get tiresome. Actually I did a quest a bit ago where two ordinators attacked me and I was level 20-something and they did a lot of damage. I wouldn't want to be coming up against them constantly in Vivec.

Wearing the indoril helm or cuirass will casue them to attack you. Wearing any other indoril armor is fine with the ordinators. The same also holds true with the "her hands" armor in Tribunal, only the helm and cuirass are the problem.

Ordinators are dark elves, and dark elves have a high resistance to fire, so the fire dammage you were doing wasn't really that high.

not if you have something that lowers their resistance to fire damage on a different weapon that you hit them with first

Morrowind is so diverse that there are areas most ppl have not explored. Best download this Java Map that has every cave location

Don't worry about nice Indoril Armour. There are much better ones ahead! When you play the TRIBUNAL Expansion pack you get the advanced "Her Hands" Heavy Indoril Enchanted Armour that has over 200AC and is shinny blue! WAYYY COOL
