What should I get? What is the best weapon?
|
Well IMO there isnt any wepaon that is best for ASSASINS only... use a powerful weapons from the selection you have..... and when u get Use any Items ability (If u have ToB) then choose any weapon u like.... Its really a matter of opinion, some people like different weapons.... and I dont think there are ne weapons u get backstabbing bonus' with.... mayb the short sword of backstabbing might have backstab bonus'.

The name of the sword certainly suggests that it should, but it's just a +3 short sword with no other bonuses AFAIK In terms of assassin weapons.....Belm is a good starting weapon, as is the Tuigan bow. Get Celestial Fury for incredible +7 backstabs, although the extra attack per round from Belm is more useful in melee situations. When you can use any item ;) my fav. melee weapon is the Scarlet Ninja-To at the mo, since it's +3, has an additional attack per round, and poisons the victim. If the victim fails their saves with this baby, and the asassin has coated his weapon in poison, they will receive 36 poison damage with *each* hit....very nice! I don't know if you can get it in BG2, but the Dagger of Venom is a very fun weapon fo assasins. I used it in BG1, and with a good hide in shadows and boots of speed I could take out most things out in one hit. If they lived they died soon after from the poison.

I always liked Celestial Fury (apart from the Sonic boom which doesn't really make it a sneaksman's weapon), but this time through I've got Belm at the moment (that extra attack helps lots), other favourite is the Pixie Prick (+3 dagger, sleep).
Always liked the look of the Scarlet Ninja-to for my previous Assassin, couldn't get user any item then though. |

What should I get? What is the best weapon?

What race are you? If you're an Elf, remember that Long & Short Bows and Long Swords (and maybe Short Swords? anyone know?) are effectively an extra +1 to-hit. Halflings get a bonus to slings... do they get a bonus to short swords, too? Do Dwarves get bonuses to any weapon a Thief can use? Anyway, an Assassin needs two kinds of weapon: one which is most likely to hit in melee and one which has a high rate of fire for missile. You want to be able to land your backstabbing, poisoned blow, and you want to be able to inject poison into as many foes as possible (while running away). If you have ToB, you have immediate access to a kick-butt +4 ninja-to and a +4 short sword (the ninja-to uses the skill for Scimitars)... you'll also have access to the Crimson Dart (dart +3, returns, 3 attacks/round). If you're an Elf, short bows are very attractive, as are long swords. Scimitars really seem like the best deal here: +4 + electric OR +2 + extra attack, eventually +3 + poison + extra attack, very eventually +5 (on level 3 of Watcher's Keep). Long Swords are also very good. Daystar does double damage vs. undead, and is +4 to-hit and damage against anything evil, and what isn't evil? Very little worth killing. Namara is +2 to-hit but +4 damage and lets you cast Silence 15' Radius three times per day. Both are available immediately, no quest necessary, but some tactics and smarts are needed. -- Nifft |
