Sometimes I just can't sell all of my cool high value stuff, but need to get on with getting more riches. Can I get away with this permanently, or even for a little while? Thanks!

No you can't. In guilds, even if you're a member, if you put your stuff in their containers and they catch you removing it later, they turn hostile because they think you're stealing it. This is also the case with containers outside houses if guards see you removing your own stuff from them, though there are a number of out of the way boxes for example in Balmora you can use without guards seeing you.

You can put stuff down safely knowing that it won't disappear, however. You can actually leave all your stuff in the middle of the street and it will all be there forever. For rp-ing purposes though, it's best to find an empty house to use, download a residence mod, or use your own house you can get by being high up in one of the great houses.

Thanks for the info. I guess leaving stuff in the middle of the street just doesn't seem cool. I guess I will try using the house in Balmora that belongs to that guy (or girl) I killed a while back.

Or you could just find a house you like and kill the owner, that work's rather well..

I like the bedroom in the Mage's guild: nice and close to teleport services, [I kept my 'mark' ther before adding the multi-mark mod], and you can use the beds, table, and floor to keep things organized.

The really special items, I stored on the benches in the mages 'class room' or chapel, or whatever that is...

You can keep your stuff at Ralen Hlaalu house in balmora. The house is quite big and got lots of space where you can keep your items.

Dropping items in the street works, because they never disappear. I have a full ebony armor set sitting next to the temple in Mournhold.

BTW, craziness aside, you can just look for merchants with more gold/septims also...
