Well, in some cases, you can ressurect them, but except that, they're gone.
see ya! |
There was 2 ways that I have seen the portrait disappear:
Flesh to Stone - Will petrify your person and remove them from the party. You can de-petrify (?) them and then get them to join you again. or Disintigrate - Bye Bye, never to be seen again. (kinda like Drow equipment) That is whey I love to use that Q key (quick-save) |
It has to do with how badly they were whacked. Disappearing completely is the same as totally chunking a monster. I think it happens if the hit will reduce the HP's to less then -10.

Neosmeg,
if you have Jaheira in your party when you find Khalids body in the initial dungeon, she suggests that there is a point beyond which the damage to a body makes resurrection impossible. If a person is hit by a disintigrate spell or smashed for so much damage that they burst into chunks then they're gone for good. Other effects that make a portrait disappear (flesh to stone, imprisonment, etc) can usually be reversed, one way or another. Kez |
