Ok, I've had Morrowind for a long time, but at first I couldn't get into it. Now I'm replaying it, and I'm enjoying more than I used to. But I'm still confused about some things.
I'm now a level 3 thief, and I'm trying to get my marksmanship and alchemy up, and later on, hopefully, get my thief to do a little bit of magic... But I have some questions regarding skills 1) How high can you get them? 2) Can you get all skills to that same number? (I think I said that right) 3) Any tips on raising Alchemy? 4) How do skills affect stats (or do they?) as you level up? |

yes.
However, the best way is to train 3 skills by 10 at the same time. thus you'll get a 5 and 5 and 5 multiplier. For example, Train markmanship by 10, alchemy by 10 and heavy armor by 10. thus when you get level up, you'll obtain the maximum 5 multipier for Agility and 5 multiplier for Intelligence and 5 multiplier for Endurance. so, a 5 and 5 and 5 multiplier is the maximum multiplier you can get when you level up. Remember though, to obtain this you must train 3 different skills which effect 3 different stats. [ 12-13-2003, 12:53 AM: Message edited by: Kakero ] |
A little extra info:
Every skill has a governing attribute. Fer instance, IIRC, long blade, Axe and heavy armour are strength governed. So, a total of 10 boosts in these three skills will get you the x5 multiplyer. Though the game tracks how far you are away from your next level, it doesn't track the different governing attributes you've increased: you have to do that for yourself. I made a chart of all the attributes, and each time I got a skill bump, I made a check under the appropriate category. That way, I knew just what I needed to get max multiplyers for all three of your assignables with every level. When I found myself approaching a level without enough skill bumps for [say] strength, I'd train up a Miscellaneous skill [in my case, Axe] that was also strength based. That gets your multiplyer up without leveling prematurely-- Misc. skills count towards your multiplyers, but not your levels. For this reason, its nice to have some skills you actually use and like in the misc. category: I found the bound spear very nice for its range, and bumps in spear count towards your endurance. Speachcraft trains Intelligence [I think], and shortblade counts towards speed. I also saved a LOT when a level got really near, and if I accidently leveled, I'd make note of what attributes I needed a little more work on, re-load, train and level. Its kind of a pain, I'll admit, but getting three x5s every level is more than worth it... HTH Oru |

Eating ingredients raises alchemy only a tiny portion and only if the ingredient takes effect on your character. Just to clarify that.
