OK. I've got a grand soul gem with an armored saint's soul. I know one spell - invisibility (what can I say - I like to hack and steal). I'm ready to have someone make an enchanted item for me. Two questions:
1. What's the best item to enchant (I was thinking an equisite broach, or whatever its called) 2. How the heck can I afford it? I've got tons of booty, but the enchanter doesn't have enough money to buy it. Is there a way I can swap crap for an enchantment? Thanks very much. |
I think the best item to enchant is an exquisite ring. I know that clothing can enchant less, though daedric armour/weapons may be able to hold more enchantment than exquisite rings.
Yes, the lack of people with enough money to buy stuff is quite annoying. In Caldera, there is a scamp who has 5000 and doesn't adjust his prices (ie if an item says it's worth 4500, that's what he pays). There's also a sand crab with 10,000 down on a tiny island in the south (sorry, don't have my map handy - near a shop wreck). He's pretty inconvenient though, especially if you have a lot of heavy items to sell. If you have the tribunal expansion there are vendors there with a lot more money. And I believe there are plugins with rich merchants as well. If you're still short on cash, you may have to scale down the item you're after. It's nice to have items with invisibility 100, but that might not be feasible ;) |
First, I'd buy a chameleon spell instead of using invisibility, since invisibilty dissappears as soon as you strike someone or try to pick a lock.
Regardless of which you choose, you can set the lower number [the formula is something like 'chameleon 0 to 50 for 1 second, constant effect'], which means you can push the upper number much higher. Alas, that usually means you have to remove and re-equip the item several times to get an acceptible level of effect. While I don't like this approach for items that boost strength or what-have-you, it seems to be the best way for things like invisibility and chameleon. Then save just before you talk to the enchanter: I almost never got things 'just right' on my first try. If you are lucky enough to have the 'Zenithar Whispers' amulet, use it to cast 'charm' on the enchanter. The more they like you, the less they charge. You can also swallow a 'fortify personality' for this purpose. Sell the enchanter any little cheap thing you like: you need to get their cash total off the pre-set level. That way, when you pay for the enchantment, your money will be credited to the enchanter, and you can then sell them anything other than alchemy ingredients: the enchanters will buy your glass, ebony and daedric weapons and armor no one else can afford. Course, that means you have to have enough cash to pay for the enchantment in the first place, and the enchanter won't give you anything like full market value unless your 'mercantile' is very high, but you can still get rid of some stuff that's otherwise essentially worthless because no one can afford it. When you've selected a golden saint or ascended sleeper grand soul gem, the little box in the lower left corner of the enchant menu will give you the 'constant effect' option. The Clothier lady in balmora has at least one 'exquiste amulet' for sale, if you don't happen to have one. I saved a few of them and a few exquisite rings for future use: you can leave them laying around the various mage guilds, and no one ever takes them. The other option is to only sell 'exquisite' items to your favorite enchanter. They will be there waiting in her inventory when you wish to buy them back. I'm not sure what invisibility at 100%will cost as a constant effect: a single ring or amulet may not accomodate it... Exquisite amulets and rings both have an 'enchant' value of 120, IIRC. You can only wear 1 amulet and 2 rings at any given time. My favorite enchanted item was one I made very early in the game: an exquiste amulet containing bound longsword, bound longbow, and bound curiass. These are not only great weapons, they fortify your armour, blade and marksman skills. They weigh nothing, and never need to be repaired: just take off the amulet and re-equip it on occasion.
