ok...basically i've noticed very few people are labelling there spoilers anymore...now i understand how you think its pointless but some newbies won't think about the fact THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. so, instead of Ranting on at all of you about labelling your spoilers, i thought it was easier to label the whole forum :D . now this isn't an exuse not to put spoilers warning, its just a warning for all the little newbies running around.
Although, if your posting a Tribunal or Bloodmoon (especially bloodmoon) spoiler DO PUT ITS A BLOODMOON OR TRIBUNAL SPOILER! i've already seen people not putting spoiler warnings whilst talking about bloodmoon. Its onkly recently come out and alot of people either haven't had a chance to buy it yet or haven't got very far in it. so PLEASE LABEL THOSE SPOILERS OR ELSE I'LL COME AFTER YOU WITH MY DEADRIC CLAYMORE!!!!

that will be all children

interesting, though we have to live the fact that coming to a gaming forum will mean you will be spoilt whether you like it or not.

I'm sure Ziroc would beg to differ.

No one should be spoiled. But if you get into a gaming forum, a bit of spoiling cannot be avoided. I guess I am spoiling if I say that daedric is better than ebony, since you should be figuring it out yourself while playing the game. But we cannot put spoiler tags on every single post! If we did so, every thread would contain at least 95% of post with that label, and you would have only two choices, really: either not read them, thus making the forum useless, or read them and stumble into big spoiling because you cannot know what is awaiting you beforehand.

My opinion:
If it reveals plot, item stats, quests, places, label it as a spoiler. But if it is just a name hanging there in middle air, or an obscure hint, or the simple statement that something exists or will somehow happen, don't put spoiler tags. Unless the newbie knows what you are talking about, or he won't understand and won't be spoiled.

thats the most sensible thing i've heard in a long while. i've always done that anyway but some people just don't wanna follow the damn rules of the forum (not mentioning names ).
it does piss me off when people post bloodmoon spoilers without any warning its to do with bloodmoon. as i've completed both morrowind and tribunal before but haven't got to play bloodmoon yet as i restarted with a new char and am at too lower level to go there. i like these games so i can discover and explore, not to sit back and read about what someone else has found. when morrowind first came out i avoided this forum like the plague to avoid being spoiled, but now i don't wanna have to avoid this forum again as it could be a while before i get to explore bloodmoon.
why, back when ToB first came out........*RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!! ITS A RANT ABOUT THE OLD DAYS!*.......you'd have your account suspended for even looking like you where gonna reveal the new NPC. they where much stricter back then, before all these damnable newbies arrived....ofcoarse back then everything was cheeper, why i bought ToB and still had money for penny candy (yeh, 1 peice)...also The mighty SpamQueen had alot less posts back then...hadn't even reached the 10k mark by then....*COME BACK, THE RANT IS OVER*

I completely agree with that.

What Nanobyte is talking about is being spoiled even when you've taken every precaution. When I started playing I didn't read any posts in this forum because I didn't want to get spoiled and asked all my questions in new threads instead of searching which might spoil me. However I still was spoiled because people replied to my threads without putting spoiler tags on stuff that I didn't ask people to tell me but they did anyway. For example I remember a thread I made, I can't recall what the topic was but someone started talking about how I could get a house to put stuff in when I did certain things - information that I didn't want and wasn't tagged with a spoiler.

So I agree that people might be spoiled whether they like it or not, but only if people replying and making posts are inconsiderate and don't mark spoilers with tags. I think the person asking for help though should help themselves by specifying exactly what information they want to avoid being spoiled as much as possible. Often people replying like to give as much information as possible, which is sometimes more than you want. So if you make a thread saying 'am I doing the right thing', you should specify that you only want yes or no answers not 'yes you are because blah-blah-big-plot-spoilers' ;)

I agree in part with B_part's definition of a spoiler. Certainly all the stuff he said were spoilers is correct. But I think unless it's absolutely crucial to the topic, there shouldn't be any need to put out 'names hanging in midair' and 'obscure hints' unless specifically asked for. At least in threads where someone is asking for help. In conversation threads about good spells or where to find good items it's different because spoilers are expected.
