I was completing some quests for the Temple when the boss of the ghostgate section started giving me crazy duties.
"Well, you see, Shiden, one of our buoyant armiger has lost a certain relic, and you should find it... just a standard duty, you know"
(No! not another retrieve and come back quest! AAArgh!)
"Oh, I see, and where did he lose the thing?"
(Feigning indifference) "Red Mountain"
"[Censored]"

So I get to red mountain, crush anything in my path and get the stupid staff. Just in front of the door that leads to Dagoth Ur. Then I think: Why not?
I rush out, get keening and sunder, recall back in and enter. Notwithstanding the nasty habit of those weapons to deal 60 damage per second, I kill Dagoth. I get out, meet Azura who gives me a crappy ring, and then back to my duties.

Nerevar reborn, Nerevar the hero, shout the people when I pass by. Nerevar reborn calls me the guy in the fighters guild when I give him the Dwemer puzzle box...

I never bothered to kill Doug with this char before.

ofcoarse, the first time i played i did find it kinda funny that they where basically saying "okay, your our most powerful weapon, and our last chance against dagoth ur, my task for you is to go and get me 3 kinds of mold"
really dumb.

you can survive it if you have high enough hp. and some healing capabilities of course.

or if you mug vivec for wraithguard :D
