OK. I'm still feeling my way around the game. I thought I had the skill and attribute thing worked out. I just levelled up from level 1 to level 2. I've been wearing Heavy armur and it's gone up two skill levels (it's a minor skill). I trained med armour and spear up four levels each (misc skills)- so I calculated that would give me an endurance boost of 5x. The game offered me 2x. AM I missing something?

My other misc skills all counted (though they were raised via experience, not training).

Do trained skills not count towards your attribute boost?

Depends on the version you have. Major and minor skill increases (trained or experience) always contribute to attribute increases. Misc skills may - version dependant. In the first release PC and Xbox versions, no. After the first patch for the PC and in Xbox Platinum - yes.

Also, you need 10 levels for a governing attribute, not 6 to get the 5x bonus.

IIRC training (as in paying someone to increase) Misc. skills will not affect attribute boosts when leveling. However, raising a Misc. skill by using it can affect attribute boosts.

Nope not true. At least in my game (tribunal added, no extra patch), it makes no difference. I trained up security before my last level up and got the 5X bonus (I trained at least 10 points).

I think there is another aspect to increasing attributes during level up.

If the skill is over the governing attribrite the following happens ..

1. You can't purchase training for it.
2. You can increase it by practicing that skill, however, it will *not* count towards increasing the attribute multiplier once it goes over the governing attribute !!

I was leveling my character up carefully. I had trained 10 points in light armour ( misc skill ) for a 5X agility increase, 10 points in destruction ( misc skill ) for a 5X willpower increase, and had sliced up enough monsters for a 5 point increase in long blade ( major skill ) for a 5X strength increase.

It was level up time. I was offered the 5X for agility, 5X for willpower, but only 4X for strength. Hmmm, says I -- maybe I miscounted. Reloaded to a save just before I rested for level up, went out and chopped up a few more monsters, gained another long blade point, rested again. Still only 4X for strength !!(??)

Reloaded an old save. Yes, my long blade was now 6 points higher that what it was at the start of the current level, but the game still only offered 4X for strength at level up.

Still haven't worked out exactly why this should be so, but I'm working on the governing attribute limiting theory for now ....

I'm not sure what your glitch is Panguar, but in my game 10 levels in skill gives 5x multiplier in attribute, case closed.

you can get x5 multiplier by training either major or minor or misc skill by 10.

Old versions and Xbox version:
Misc skills can give you only a 2x multiplier.

Patched games:
Misc skills give you up to 5x multiplier. There is NO difference with major/minor.

Skill advancement is skill advancement. It doesn't matter whether you've trained or advanced by using the skill.

Misc skill advancement don't count towards level increase.
