Stupid??? The boots of blinding speed are one of the best items in the game! Just get a bit of magic resistance (useful for other purposes as well) and the only side effect is to darken the room a bit. But 300 speed (200 + natural 100) is simply great: saves time and saves your butt when the enemy are too big.
