First, what is the point of daedric shrines? Apart from having various treasure and occasionally being the site of 'go get such and such item'/'save so and so kidnapped person'/'kill such and such baddie' quests. Can you do anything in them? Invoke the daedra or something? Or are they just ruins?

LOL funny story about saving this guy in a daedric shrine. It was for the imperial legion, so I go in, kill all the baddies, unlock the doors to this guy and I speak to him, expecting him to be all grateful and he goes, 'You're out of uniform. Speak to me when you're serious'. :rolleyes: :D

Anyway... ;) will there be a time if I do everything right that I'll know what all those machines in the dwemer ruins are for? No spoilers please, don't actually want to know anything about them, just if I might in the future figure it out? ;)

And about advancement. I've been doing various quests for House Hlaalu, specifically for the lady in Vivec. Only she doesn't do advancement. I've done about 4 for her which should be more than enough for advancement, and I've tried going and asking Curio (head guy in Vivec) who does do advancement but he says I don't have the qualifications, which, if he means skills, I do! Is there anyone else I can ask? I have a quest for the Hlaalu guy in Balmora which I haven't done yet (stupid thieving one ;) ) so would he give me advancement?

well, to search for buried treasures. some daedric shrine got some valued item in them. also, some statue might talk to you and give you quest and you click on the statue. also don't forget to take away the statue offering. ;)

about the machines, I know what the story behind them, just advance your main story further.

about house hlaalu advancement, finish doing quest for lady in balmora first, get all the advancement you can. then go to another lady in vivec city, finish all her quest as well. then go to uncle cassius. he's the one who can give you advancement. if your skill is not up to the mark. just train them then.

To advance in a faction you need certain skills and stats: to see what the requirements are, scroll own your char info sheet. Below misc skills you will see which factions you have joined. If you move the pointer on the name of the faction and leave it there for a second or two, a window will appear, stating current rank and requirements for advancement. Fulfill those requirements before asking your chief for a better position.

In general, remember that: if they say things like your loyalty hasn't been tested, you haven't performed enough quests and such, it's a matter of doing more quests. If they say your skills aren't good enough, you don't meet the standards and such, you need to train some skills or improve some stats.

Well i dont' remember the machines being that important, unless u mean the big one. And also, i have done all the redoran quests for the person in vivec (steal from redas tomb, kill hlaalu, telvanni guys in manors) and i went back to Sarethi and he won't advance me. He says i dont' meet the requirements, which i know i do. What else do i have to do to advance? (ps, i know i have the skills)

Yes I do realise that you need certain requirements to advance, as I said in my first post, I do have the necesary requirements. My next advancement I need 30 in one, 5 in two others, and one of the skills is speechcraft, which I have 51 in.

Hmmm... tried patching the game... might be a bug. However in the patch description nothing is mentioned about it.
Anyway, sorry if I repeat myself, but are you sure you meet the stats? Hlaalu and any other house favors some stats over some others (although I don't remember which ones, maybe personality and agility?). I am asking this because I am master of Hlaalu, and I never had problems with advancement...

OK, I lokked it up: Hlaalu favor Speed and Agility, and love Speechcraft, Mercantile, Marksman, Short Blade, Light Armour, Security.

*sigh* Well as it turns out, Crassius doesn't do advancement either until you're of a certain level and then he sponsors you (and not before I had to take my clothes off! :eek: Dirty old man :D ). All I had to do was go ask the woman in Balmora for advancement and she set me straight. Dunno why someone couldn't have just told me that! ;) [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Well actually you said I had to finish up all the Balmora chick's quests, and all the Vivec chick's quests before I could go chat with Crassius. Which wasn't true! And didn't tell me that going to Crassius was level-dependent [img]tongue.gif[/img] ;)
