Okay, I just got Morrowind and started playing it last week. I chose a spellsword.
Now I'm really stuck-the freedom of this game has REALLY got me! I have done the first two Balmoran fighter's guilde quests, but really need to know a) whether a level 2 (Just) character can take the third and complete it b) If not, what do I do next? Thanks for your help in advance! |
Go ahead and join a couple of other guilds in Balmora and have fun exploring. Sometime later you can decide which of the three houses you wish to join. You can only be a member of one of the 3 houses. Redoran for fighters, Telvanni for mages, and Hlandu for thief types generally.
You can continue to expore and level up as long as you like. When you're ready to start the quests leading up to the main quest or goal, talk to Caius and do his quests. |
a) go ahead and do it, if you are too weak, level up a little.
b) well, you can do what poster above stated. |
Okay...but how do I level up? I keep accidently rambling into areas that are waaaaaaaay above my skill level
Thanks for your patience guys...it'll probably get worse ;) |
train any of your major or minor skill by 10 points and you'll get a level up.

My advice is, leave dungeons alone: the bandits in there tend to attack on sight. If you want to practice a bit your combat skills, either train, or wander around the main cities killing animals. Unless you stray too far, or too near to Daedric ruins, you will find easier fights. |
Go join as much guilds as possible, and randomly do quests for each of them. Take them one at a time, cause some quests can interfere with quests from other guilds. When you reach level 20, you shouldnt have much to fear from anything anymore.

What, like alchohol withdrawel? :D
Anyway, thanks guys *smacks Johnny round the back of the head* |
You might not have enough money to train up your skills early on - I didn't. A good thing I found was to walk everywhere, don't take the silt strider or guild guide. You come across lots of rats, nix-hounds, cliff racers and so on that are easy to kill but help you level up.
Join everything! It doesn't matter if you're a warrior and join the mage guild, they'll give you quests which will take you to new places, AND get you money/gifts when you're done. Especially the temple. Your first quest is to do a pilgrimage of all the shrines which is great cause you're forced to go out into the countryside and explore. Try to persuade (admire's the friendlist ;) ) everyone you meet, though best to save first because if you get everyone offside it's not too helpful later on ;) . Run everywhere, get your athletics skill up. Jump around a bit, buy lockpicks and probes so you can try to open locks and disarm traps without using scrolls. Buy lots of spells (if you can afford them) and cast them even if you don't need to. Wear different types of armour, some heavy, some medium, some light so you get experience with all of them. Pretty much everything you do improves one or more of your skills, so do a lot! And remember to read every book you see. Some give you a skill point. |

Small SPOILER: - - - - - - - - - You can recognize them from their high value (usually in the 200 range)... not all valuable books teach you skills, some are quest objects... grab them anyway and stash them somewhere. |
