Hey ya! Just got the game a few days ago. Doing pretty good so far and
really enjoying the game. Anyhoo I have some beginner questions.
Please keep the laughter to a minimum!

1. Where can I buy the Soul Trap spell?
2. I made level 2. Upon leveling up, some of my attributes
had multipliers from 2x to 4x. What determines this, and
what is the maximum multiplier?
3. I can't figure out how to cast ranged spells. Touch spells
are no problem. I just select the spell with my hot key and
left click on the target. But when I do that with a ranged
spell nothing happens. (Ok, I can hear you laughing!)

thanks for the help

1. try the mage guild in Balmora, or else try the temple in Balmora.

2. okay, when you increase a skill 2 points. it will have a x1 multiplier. increase it by 4. you'll get a x2 multiplier. did you notice that skill are govern by attribute? ie The block skill is govern by agility. if you train block skill by 4. you'll get a x2 multiplier in agility. the max multiplier you can get for your attribute is x5.

3. emm..you do know how to select a spell and cast it right? if you do, maybe the spell failed to cast because your magic skill is too low. or the spell isn't a range one. try fireball, it's a range spell.

You're probably not powerful enough yet to succesfully cast ranged spells. Not sure though.

Ok, I'll try to re-word the ranged spell casting question.

This is how I cast Touch Spells:
I select the spell with the hotkey. I left click on the
target, and the spell is cast.

Touch spells are *not* the problem. The problem is ranged spells.

Ranged spells: I have one ranged spell, fireball. I select it
with the hot key. In the lower left hand corner it shows the
word "Fireball" so I know it's readied. I put the cross hair
on a target, and left click. Nothing happens. No message of any
sort. Just nothing.

I would think it should work the same way as Touch Spells.
But it's not happening. What am I doing wrong?

strange, try selecting it the normal way. I mean click the spell from the spell table. exit and press R on keyboard. then press right mouse button.

The right mouse button you say? Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong.
I've been pressing the left button. I'll try it.

Thanks

actually I'm quite confuse myslef whether it is left or right mouse button. it's been sometime since I play this game.

It should be the left button... but then again many people use custom controls, so its hard to tell...

Thanks, Slayer. Yes it would seem to be the left mouse button,
or whatever key/button you use to attack. Still leaves my
problem unsolved though.

You may not be skilled enough or rested enough to cast perfectly. Depending on your skill, and the difficulty (cost to cast) of the spell, you have a percentage to cast successfully.

If you are trying to cast a fireball, what is your Destruction skill and your Wisdom?

What is you % to cast? You can see this in the spell list menu.
for ex
</font><blockquote>code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;">Fireball 5/100
Summon Scamp 20/40</pre>[/QUOTE]The fireball costs 5 mana and is 100% successfull at full fatigue, while the Summon spell costs 20 mana and is only 40% successfull when fully rested. These %s go down when you are exhausted (low fatigue).

Other than that all you have to do is aim and cast. Whether the spell goes off is dependant on above.
