Are you supposed to keep the Ash Vampire amulets on your person to weaken Dagoth Ur? I killed all seven ash vampires and stashed their amulets in my Dagon Fel home but Dagoth Ur was still insanely difficult to fight! I could hardly even harm him in the Akulakhan's chamber and I eventually just had to give up on him and go for Lorkhan's Heart.

Really? I *was* hurting him, he just kept regenerating it all before it I could do too much damage. Funny thing too that I never killed him the second time. When I destroyed the heart the whole Akulakhan, Dagoth Ur included, plummeted into the lava.

I think it's supposed to end that way. It happened to me as well.

Actually you needn't have the amulets with you to weaken dagoth ur, although they might help with thier enchantments.
You cannot kill dagoth ur directly, you must destroy the heart. That's the game, he will keep regenerating endlessly if you don't hit the heart.
