I thought I understood how the skills work but after reading every post on this board that deals with it, plus the manual I still can't get a X5 modifier.

Looking at Str only I put trained the following skills:

Long Blade (major) 5 times

Armorer (minor) 2 times

Axe (misc) 4 times

Acrobatics (misc) 4 times

I only came up with a X3 modifier. Even if only one of the misc skills counted I think I should have a X5 there.

I've tried varying the skills an the amounts I train each one and I still can't get a 5.

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

patch your game, the patch make it possible for you to get multiplier from mics skill.

Unpatched games can get at most a 2x multiplier from misc skills, and it doesn't stack with any multiplier form major/minor, hence:
Long blade 5/2= 2x (always round down)
Armorer 2/2=1x
Axe and acrobatics 4/2=2x each, but they don't stack!
Total =3x
