How can I get the alchemical formulas in Vivec without killing that npc? Actually I guess I could find and use an invisibility potion. Does anyone know of that will work?

your sneak skill should be high in order to steal successfully.

I don't know, but i know there is a way, my brother did it without killing her. Maybe invisibility or calm humanoid and then theives guild to get rid of your crime

*An invisible potion works if you wait until her back is turned.

A sneak sklill of about 32-35 works fine, too. It just can take a while, until you get the scroll without beeing caught.

Also, try and cast chamaleon: this greatly improves your chances of succesfully sneaking.
Another tip: start sneaking far away from the char you want to fool: staying in sneak mode requires less skill than entering it.

For some obscure reason, Chameleon is far more useful than Invisibility. There are only a few constant effect items that I make for every game: Night-eye, Levitate and Chameleon being pretty much it (and a sword with Absorb Health, which absolutely rocks!).

Why levitate? it makes your char slow as hell, plus you cannot sneak.
