Well, I've been told to go to Mallipi to retrieve debt money from a woman's brother. I've killed two people and a few monsters but I can't find anything else. have I missed something?

The brother's dead body is under the water in the first cavern extension to the right. IIRC you can get the money on him and then report back to his sister. You should then be able to complete the quest and talk to the guy who gave it.
