I didn't pick these up first time through the game but I escorted the merchant and got them this time. Exactly what is the effect of blindness anyway? It makes my screen go a bit darker but I can still see everything. I though it would make my accuracy in combat drastically reduce but instead I get a massive increase in hit accuracy (due to speed?). I'm wondering if, having taken a race with innate magical resistance, the effects are the same as they would be for others.

I used the hell out of the boots back when I was playing the game. I was a fighter though and my screen went completly black. I had to use the small screen in the upper left to nagivate, but it went a hell of a lot quicker than running. Plus I'd usually be levitated then put em on and haul a@# so I didn't have to worry about hitting mountains. Only problem was I had to stop every now and then because if I wasn't pointing straight when I put them on I might end up at about 10,000 feet when my levitated potion or spell ran off and be screwed. lol. hehe is it a bird, is it a plane, is it a erm dive bomber, oh no its just JohnRR with his levitate having worn off ...*splat* is it a puddle, is it a rock, is it ergggg well i recognise the entrails
spose i need to get hold of those boots again, i just didnt like being blind and couldnt be bothered to use the ways round it, im content with maximum speed, athletics and acrobatics and levitate spell to get where i wanna go |
lol. Yeah, became a puddle of mush a few times, Grungi, but after all the exploring I did on the ground was kinda cool to haul some a#@. Once I finally found the Staff of levitation, though, it wasn't a pob. When I heard myself falling just used it again real quick like pulling my ripcord on a chute.

there is a mod you can download that will give you the boots of speed like the ones in baldur's gate but you don't go blind when you put them on you just go really fast in fact you have to be careful when you enter a tomb or you'll run yourself into a wall and become part of it forever unless you have one of the divine intervention scrolls to transport you to the nearest holy temple or where ever they send you so always remember to remove them before you go inside anything or anyplace and you wont have any trouble.

I didn't like boots of blinding speed because it makes the screen go totally dark. plus it is a light armor boot.

Truly weird then. My screen dims a bit but I can still see fine, and my ability to hit with a sword has gone from crummy to perfect.

Blinding is a normal spell: so, if you have spell resistance (e.g. if you are breton or you are wearing the cuirass of savior hide or something similar), the effect will be countered.
To be more precise, the boots of blinding speed give you a malus of 80% blind. Get 50% resistance to magic (or 50% night eye) and the effect will go down to 30%, darening your screen a bit. That's the reason why some of you can spot a scrib in the next valley and some of you can't see an ogrim two inches from your nose while wearing the boots. |
though with an ogrim you can certainly smell it ;)
