To the people of this board that know the elven language:
Does the drows in Ust Natha talk "real" elfish (the language Tolkien made) or is it just some letters randomly combined by the developers? |
Well, I dont know, but it does sound pretty 'real'.
But I doubt that it's the actual language that Tolkien used. see ya! |
They speak Drow, the language created by tsr for an variation of surface elven, and FYI Ust Natha means "first a" in Drow, according to the drow if the underdark accessory
|
don't the elves have more than one language? since they have been underground for thousands of years their language is probably unlike any other elven language.
|
Well, Sweden and Denmark isn't the same country, but we still understand eachother
well... single words... sometimes... when lucky... |
Every being in the Underdark speaks the same language, the Drow refrain from speaking "normal" Elvish.

If you want a wordlist of the Drow language, go here and download The Drow of the Underdark. Everything you always wanted to know about Drow but were afraid to ask. Compairing the small glossary of Drowish that this book contains, you'll find that the Drow in the game, including Viconia, use a predefined language, and not some incoherent blabbing by the programmers. Although the Elven language from the AD&D setting is different from Tolkien's Elvish and not nearly as detailed.
And for info on surface Elven language, you could try The Complete Book of Elves. Not sure if it contains that info though. |

Not sure if Undercommon really is the Drow language. Could be, seeing that Drow are the dominant and most widespread race in the Underdark. [ 02-25-2002: Message edited by: J'aran ]
|
