OK, OK, I let three vampires pound on me for at least 20 minutes, maybe longer!

(I had a healing robe and would cast the Stamina spell on myself occasionally so I wouldn't fall down.)

Is it because I'm already the Nerevarine and Hortator? Or is it because I'm already too high level? Maybe the corprus disease resists it?

I'd really like to try the vampirism just to experience it for a few game days, without even saving the game into my storyline.

Once you got rid of corpus disease, you have 100% resistance to all diseases, including vampiric.

Figured it was something like that -- thanks for the info! I have another character, a younger one that hasn't been through hardly any of the main quest yet but is getting very strong. I'll put that character into a vampire den.

Will there be a journal entry indicating I've been infected, or an icon in the bottom right corner where the spells are listed? I've read that a popup appears but I might miss it if I'm not watching the screen at that moment.

I have the other character being hit repeatedly. It's taking forever . . .

Answered my own question -- there's no journal entry provided and no other indication anything happened, except for a brief popup regarding being infected with a blood disease. After the 72-hour incubation period passes and you become a full-fledged vampire, you get a nice big message about it, but still nothing in the journal. But you get several icons representing the damage from sunlight, stat boosts, etc.

It's probably best to go to the clan's home base when you want to become a vampire. I went to the Sarethi tomb NW of Dagon Fel, just because it's easy to find. Well I find out that they're kind of a small group of separatists of the clan, which means that none of the other clan members elsewhere in Morrowind will have anything to do with me. None of the members of this separatist group offer quests or anything, at least not yet. I assume if I'd gone to a the home base I'd have a little more fun. I could still restore a savegame and go get vamped at a different location.

Man, the stat boosts are Awesome! You think you can run and jump pretty well right now? Try being a vampire! You can fall from (as far as I can tell) ANY height and not get injured. Makes using the Icarian Flight scrolls very easy. And Icarian Flight scrolls are very valuable to have as a vampire, since you cannot use fast travel -- mage guilds won't transport vampires, nor will silt striders or boat captains.

I ran into one amusing loophole. If you run up to an enemy vampire and immediately talk to him, you can take advantage of any training he has. Also using the 'calm humanoid' spell will make an enemy vampire calm down and you can do more training with him if you want. All this even if you're not a vampire or even have the blood disease. I got two or three levelups due to training in a couple skills at one vampire den, before going to the Aundae clan base to get 'infected'.

One important note on the Aundae quest where you have to kill a vampire hunter: make sure it's in broad daylight (yeah, daylight kicks your butt but you have to do it in daylight, like around noon). Also make sure that at least one *resident* is there to see it. Guards witnessing the murder isn't enough. If you don't get a journal update immediately after killing the vampire hunter, then it'll be no good, so try again!

Err...thanks for the insight. Just asking, do you always talk to yourself alone? (joke)

Anyway I have finished the game couple of months ago and now I have moved on to IWD II.

Chun Dar 09-25-2002 10:41 AM

IWD II?

ecarletti 09-25-2002 10:56 AM

I think it's "IceWind Dale 2".

Chun Dar 09-25-2002 11:40 AM

Yeah, I did some searching on IWD and found it.

Looks nice but I'm enjoying the first-person perspective -- much more immersive.

I agree 100%. I've made it pretty far in MW, and have kind of lost interest in it (attention-span problem). I spent less than 5 hrs on IWD 1. I just don't enjoy that type of game as much.

Much to my horror, I've spent about 8 hrs in the last week playing Dungeon Siege. Not only is it 3rd person, it isn't even a real RPG. (think Diablo meets Gauntlent). My excuse is that the graphics are pretty. Also I want to build-up a character to high level because I go to a LAN party every three weeks and most of the guys like DS. I played it with them last time and was woefully underpowered.

Boy I strayed WAY off-topic. :D
