Got a problem, to become the redoran hortator you need to concinve the councilors to name you hortator. But they wont' even talk to me because i killed him earlier on in the game, namely because he was wearing all ebony and had a daedric dai-katana, by the way his name in Bolvyn Venim, all the councilors say that i have killed this councilor and they will never name me hortator. Now I do know that you have to kill Venim anyways, but you ahve to engage in dialogue first, which i did not do.

Anyway,
If anyone knows a way around this, I would be deeply grateful to you to post a reply.
I have tried everything possible to get these people to talk to me, but nothing works and the main quest would seem inpassable at this point in the game.

Sorry but I think you`re screwed. I know that in the newest patch the game is fixed so that you`re warned 'you have killed an essential charater' if you kill him.

Well actually this is the xbox version, so there are no patches, so there was no "doom" message.

yeah, that's a toughie. My brother killed an inmate in tel fyr once, and lost the game cuz he couldnt talk to &*%)*%) divayth fyr. But, this sounds much worse.Sorry, cant help ya. If i were you id go on a rampage and kill everyone in the house of redoran, lol.

I'm pretty sure I can't advance farther than this, but I still want to see if maybe there is some possibility of getting past it.
I tried a calm humanoid spell, but that didn't work. I thought about killing them all, but you need the guy to name you hortator, don't you?
I mean, if you killed him, would you be able to find the object that claims you the hortator on his body, or even if you do do you need a journal trigger to allow you to further advance?
I dunno guys, just throwin ideas out, maybe someone knows?

I'm afraid that's it dude, you can start all over again. Only thing i can add to this is, you need several savegames next time. Or did you have that ?

Actually Bolvyn Venim won't name you Hortator... he will strongly object, you will challenge him to a duel and KILL HIM in the Vivec Arena.
Simply you killed him too early...

Anyway, my humble advice is to avoid going around and killing anyone and looting everything, as in general many NPC's and loot items are linked to quests.
By acting like a human stampede you simply miss most of the game.
