the 3rd thief quest to steal dwemer artifacts, i stole them but got arrested, paid to be free but obviously got the artifacts confiscated and now i cant find them so i cant complete the quest, how do i get them back or load them up or get round it?

also can i actually steal things, havent found a command to pickpocket, trying to get the code book off sottilde in balmora but because im in thieves guild i cannot get it however much i bribe her, any other way?

You might be able to find the items in the evidence chest for the area you are in. I usually save right before stealing just in case things go bad.

You can pick pocket by being in sneak mode while clicking on your mark. This opens their inventory screen. All of their items may not be in the inventory so you may have to do it a couple of times. Make sure the sneak icon is active otherwise you will probably be caught. I have found you need a fairly high sneak score to not be seen and a good security skill as well. You can also use the Chameleon spell to help with your sneaking.

To get the items, you can go to almost any dwemer ruin and you'll be guarantied to find some dwemer objocts if not all.
And as for the thieves guild, if you join the fighters guild and advance in rank all you have to do is bribe fire eye with the bitter cup and you'll never have to do the code book.

i got the dwemer artifacts but although they are the correct ones in terms of name they arent accepted, so i assumed i need the proper ones from that one person, so where is the nearest evidence chest likely to be? in a fort? whats nearest hla oad?

MaskedFrog 09-05-2002 12:51 PM

You could try either Balmora or Seyda Neen. I am not sure if the items end up in the evidence chest as I have never tried to open one. You are going to need a really high sneak skill to open the chest without fighting the guards. You may just have to restart before paying the fine.

still no luck, im rocketing forward with all the other quests but this simple old thieves one is annoying me, where are the evidence chests stored? and failing that anyone know how to load the items i need?

I actually had that problem with the Hlervu locket. Must've looted it and sold it long ago, don't know. By the time someone asked me to go get it it was already gone -- all the bedroom doors were wide open and locks picked.

I even added the locket using the console but it was not the "correct" one I suppose, never mind that the item name was "hlervu_locket_unique".

if i cant do this quest then i can never progress further in the thieves guild or can i? any way of being grandmaster without doing it? and surely someone knows the load for these 3 items

anybody? is it possible for me to complete thieves guild quests if i miss this one? because something weird happened in aldrun despite the fact i know theres meant to be 3 quests in between i only got two off him, but i know he has 5 quests to give (or more) i only got two the 1st and the last, didnt get any in between so couldnt do much about my faction, is this because i didnt get past the balmora thieves quests?

You don't have to complete all the quests to reach the top. I did not do many of the thieves guild quests and still made master thief. I also did not complete the fighter's guild quest to get the code book from Sottilde because I thought that might interfere with my later efforts to become master thief. If you start a quest and don't finish, you won't be able to get another quest from that quest-giver. It takes a bit of thought to become leader of multiple guilds.
