I've gotton to the point where I can't advance in the Wizard's Guild without getting a Wizards Staff. I know I can buy one, which I don't want to do. I also know of the one up north near Dagon Fel. But Ajirra in Balmora told me about the Staff of Magnus so I went and got that because I had another quest in the Mt. Kand area. Well, when I got back to the guild they didn't seem to notice that I had the staff.

So do I have to go get the one they told me about up north? Will any magical staff do? It's kind of frustrating because it took me a long time to get the Staff of Magnus. Now it looks like I still have to trek across the island. At least I got a cool staff.

Hmmm, did you ask to advance with Staff of Magnus in your inventory/equiped?

I prefer the Wizard Staff because it has 120 second Levitation spell. OK, so it is only 1 pt speed, but it is a great way to travel:)

I have also found Wizard Staff's in several Necromancer/Sorc's caves. I think these are random though...

The Warlock Ring & Staff of Magnus quests given by Ajira are separate & optional quests and thus do not affect advancement in the guild. So the MAgnus Staff is not considered a Wizard's Staff, you'll have to get one (the wizards staff).

Ahh, so the Wizard's Staff is a named item, a specific staff? I thought it was a generic term as in,

"Hey did you see Magnus' wizard staff? It's called the Staff of Magnus and cures 1 point of health per second for 60 seconds and some other cool stuff."
"Yeah, I saw it, but it's not as good at Eledrix's wizard staff. Its called the Lifesucker Staff and it absorbs 60 points of health."

But I need to get the staff called Wizard Staff, ok.

It's funny. My character is a custom Battle Mage. My stregth has always been low because I've be concentrating on the Mage part. I started out with Short Blade as a minor skill, and now that I got a staff, I'm practicing a strenth skill. I finally got a x5 stregth multiplier. Soon I won't have to worry about not being able to carry loot. I can keep the Staff of Magnus for fighting and the Wizard Staff for travelling.

Well, I chucked the Staff of Magnus because I found a Daedric Wakizashi and enchanted it with Damage health 34pts.

You're right Ajia. I absolutely love the Wizard Staff. I'll never walk again. Every wizard should fly. I just wish I could see myself making a grand flying entrance into town from a third person perspective (at least a wider angle than is allowed in the game.)

I've been looking for the wizard staff west of Dagon Fel up north but can't find the cave it's supposed to be in, Sud or something? Can you give me more specific directions? I found a bunch of mines and other caves.... Thanks.

The cave the Wizards staff is in is on the extreme west coast of the island that Dagon Fel is on. There is a North/South inlet a little bit west on Dagon Fel, but you have to go further than that. Like I said, I can't remember for sure, so I'll double check when I get home tonight and post a correction if needed.

Do you think I should of taken Blunt Weapons as a major skill instead of Long Sword?

Doesn't really matter in the long run. I took Short Sword, now my blunt skill is just as high. I used the Staff of Magnus and the Wizards Staff for a while, then found a hammer with a 15 pt constant effect feather enchantment that does a whole lot of damage, so now I use that. I carry around a bunch of short swords with paralyze and soul trap enchantments on them. I can only do that because the short swords are fairly light. I think early in the game you will probably have more luck with long sword though.
