go ahead and start looking for a free hex editor. and i'll try to find the tutorial i used to learn.
here is the basic idea, hope it helps. 1. open the construction set and find the item that uses the model you are wanting to use. 2. double click on that item and find out which .nif file it uses. 3. find this .nif file on the construction set cd (disk 2) and copy it into the appropriate folder in your morrowind data files directory.(you may have to create the folder) 4. Rename the file to something original, but try to keep a similar naming scheme to the name already used. 5. open your .nif in the hex editor. 6. click on edit and search for NiSourceTexture 7. there will be a file name listed right after the NiSourceTexture line. this is (one of) the texture(s) that this item uses. You have to change this file name to the file name of your texture. ***it is very important that the file name of your texture be the exact same number of characters as the name of the original file. 8. click on edit and click find next. see if the item has anymore textures you may want to replace. 9. once all of the textures have been changed. save the .nif file in the hex editor. 10. in the construction set, create a new item (there are 2 easy ways to do this. one is open an existing item and change its ID to something else and when you save you will be prompted to create a new item. or you can right click on the item list and click new) 11. in your new items window you will need to click the button that has the .nif file listed on it (or the button that says "add art file") and select the new .nif file you edited. 12. save the item (click the "save" button in the item window. 13. put your item in the world somewhere and save the plugin file. 14. load your plugin and go play |
here's that tutorial
