So, I was on this quest to make this NPC show up for a duel he started..he said he'd go but he wanted 10 heal potions to help him stand up to this big brute, so I get them and we go off to the Arena..well, the other guy cleans his clock and leaves him for dead..I didn't like the other guy's attitude when he walked away..very cocky, *I knew I'd beat that whimp*, so I stewaed about it. The quest was completed and after that my game crashed and my save was juat before the fight..sooo...I used my shadow ring and hide myself and wacked the guy until he was almost dead and then backed away and let the little guy kill him..what was funny was MY reaction....I was like squealing in glee and guilty pleasure..the NPC walked away saying * I can't believe I won...the Tribunal must have looked down upon me* It was soooo coooool!!! Minor, I know, but the idea I could do that was grand!

here's a cheap way to fight in the Arena, first lavitate up to the spectator area, next cast fireball until the person is dead.

In this case, I wasn't actually IN the fight, just watched those two duke it out. I haven't yet been dueled..not sure what you were to do to make the mage guild guy duel yah...he stepped down for me after a letter...

you will duel with the mage guy when you want to be Guildmaster of Mage. He is pretty easy to be defeated.

I am the guild master..Skink gave me a letter to deliver..it told him to stand down and he did..though he says he'll be watching me....I ended up going back to him after I solved the disappearance of the dwarves*

You are both right, you can either duel him to become the guild master, or you can deliver the letter from skink. Heard rumors that there may be a third way, but haven't gotten to work yet myself.

But that's one of the great things about this game, you have choices on how you want to get from point a to point b.

Yah, I thought I had hosed up the Calders Slave Miines quest and found another way..but not a method I would have chosen , but one must live with one's impulsive moves...at least there was another way, otherwise I'd be bummed...

the third way is to let him step down peacefully, but that's just a rumour. ;)
