where can i find some empty grand soul gems?

Mivn-Gei is in the Foreign Quarter lower waistworks. Its been awhile since I did this but I believe this is correct. I will check my journal when I get home to make sure for you.</p> Good luck!

I have been lucky to pick up about 10 empty's so far, just from visiting various enchanters across the land...

Vivec is a good place to find them, due to the proliferation of mages in the various compounds....

I even recieved a few doing quests, but can't remember which ones right now...

Go to the far east coast of Molag Mar, to the shrine of Azure. Do her (Azure) quest and you will be given the Azure Star. It is basically a reusable grand soul gem. Once this soul gem is used for enchanting, it will be become blank/empty and you can fill it up again with any soul. But unlike any other normal type of grand soul gem, the Azure Star can only be used to store higher level souls.

For example, if I have only 1 empty grand soul gem and I cast soul trap on a rat, the soul of the rat would be captured in the grand soul gem but if I have only the Azure Star, the soul of the rat would not be captured. Of course this is just my observation and I could be wrong.

you are correct paladin but keep in mind for new players the azures star quest is long hard and tedious quest to complete.

There's a dungeon called Palansour on the edge of the water somewhere (about halfway, I think) between Gnisis and Khuul. I picked up a few grand soul gems in there... The enemies in there were a bunch of Scamps and and Ogrim.

IIRC you can steal two grand gems off a shelf in the mages guild in caldera.
you also get two from skink-in-tree's-shade (mage guild in sadrith mora) for one of his quests, though you use one of them during the quest.
