Well I'm done with DS and am looking for a new game and was wondering if Morrowind will play well on...Compaq presario/700mhz,256 ram and the nasty on board video card.Everything is basically stock stuff and would prefer the game to run properly or I'll just pass for now till I can afford an upgrade!? Thanks for any info...John

well, hon, you don't really give tons of specs, but you appear to be at the low end.
esp with onboard video. the min requirement for video is 32mb, and i don't know what your onboard is. ALL drivers have to be Direct X 8.1 compliant. my lowend machine is a P3 1000, Soundblaster Live 5.1, Radeon 7200 32mb, 512 mb RAM and it freezes up every 3 or 5 minutes for about 30 seconds. i run it at 800x600x32 with all the sliders almost all the way down. its playable but looks a tad ragged. it runs much better on my GEF3ti500, Montego Sound, AMD 1.8, 512 mb RAM. it looks sweet at 1200x1600x32, but i still get a freeze up every 5 mins for about 5 seconds. but its much sweeter on the high end machine, definitely. a patch will be released soon, so maybe it will clear up the slowdowns and freezes. i would say get it cause the game is just so wonderful, but i'm very leery of your vid capabilities there, hon. :( sorry. Your PC will have a way to turn off its onboard video, but then you face the question of whether it includes an empty AGP slot for a fast video card. PCI slots really downgrade performance if you have to go that route, and you just won't find much selection for PCI.
If there's an AGP slot to use, there are some reasonably good under- $100 adapters that will work. Someone on one forum or another has recently named an online accessory store selling GeForce 3, Ti 200 cards for something like $79 (and I just paid $100 myself for one of those at Best Buy). That's a mid-level performance adapter for a low level price. The K. - |
Morrowind runs fine on my 1050 Althon. The real issue with any game nowadays is video card more than anything.

First question is will your video card run true color on the desktop (32 bit)? If not, it won't run at all.
