Everytime I try to fire up BGII I get that error mesasge including when I am trying to run a patch.

Is there a certian dir that BGII must be in, if anyone could share theirs with me. I usally keep games on my d: drie bc it is 7.2k RRM and alot bigger but I have a feelign that it needs to be in some defalt directory.

there is no default path as far as i know
my path is D:\games\bg2
try a reinstall (make it full, that saves you the diskjockey duty)
and backup your chars and savegames first

BG2 need to be where you installed it. if you move it it will probably give this error message.

Beyond that the resistry might be screwed, do a re-install.
