I'm going through Spellhold for the first time. I've talked to Waven and gotten the first memo regarding the Pantaloons Quest, but 75 more tries did NOT grant me the second - "rare" - memo that explains about the Pantaloons.
I have two questions: 1) Do I need these memos to complete the Quest, or are they just window dressing? 2) Is there some way to "decipher' the code of the memo's in the game? |
Cerek, long time, no see! The pantaloons, are, according tomy stepson and his "Versus Perfect Guide" are used in making the Big Metal Machine. I know that the gold pantaloons are found in ToB. He got the Bronze ones from BGI, which he managed to import into BGII, can you believe it? I wish that I had a scanner, I'd send it to you.

Hey <font color="pink">Galadria,</font>
I have the Pantaloons. I read about them on a HELP site shortly after starting BGII (so I had to go BACK to BGI to grab the first pair). Anyway, Waven (the previous "coordinator" of Spellhold) passes two memeos - written in code - that explain that the character should "always keep" the pantaloons. It even said that the second memo may take "several" attempts to get. I finally quit after trying for 45minutes. I just wondered if the memos were just for explanation or if I need them to complete the quest? PS...I never got a chance to compliment you on our battle in that "other" forum. That was VERY exciting. I thought you had me at the end. |
Close, Cerek. I really don't know the answer, but I'll get my stepson, the pantaloon expert on it. Maybe I'll even get him to post.

<font color = lightgreen> No offense to either Galadria or her stepson, but the gold pantaloons are found in BG1 and may be imported into SoA, the silver pantaloons are a reward for doing a certain quest in a certain way (no spoilers, there), and the bronze pantalets are another quest reward in ToB. Wanev will give you the second note in only 1 out of 1000 times of speaking with him. Take a memo!
The first note is a simple shift-cypher, solved by moving 4 letters to the left ("q" becomes "m", for example); the second note is another shift-cypher of 2 to the left ("c" becomes "a"). The likelihood of anyone finding and keeping all three pantaloons through the three games is incredibly small; if no one in IronWorks knew the secret of the pantaloons I doubt if even one person would gather all 3.</font> |
Cerek,
If you want to know everything about the pantaloons, you can go here http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursga...oonsenigma.php It has all the answers (and spoilers) you'll need. Good luck! |
Thanks <font color="orange">Campino</font>, I appreciate the information. That's where I originally got the info on the whole Quest, so I know where to find the pantaloons themselves and how to convert them into the Big Machine...
My question is....do I need the two memo's from Waven to complete the quest too...or can I just toss the memo's after I've "deciphered" them. I'm trying to avoid having to approach Waven 1000 times to get the second memo. Thanks again for your help. |

I would keep them, just to make sure, that if you do need them, you've got them.Maybe someone else knows the answer? And speaking a 1000 times to a certain someone is done faster than you think :D Good luck Cerek [ 02-20-2002: Message edited by: Campino ]</p> |
<font color="lightgreen"> According to baldurdash, no you dont need the memos. Simply the pantaloons/ pantalettes. Read the link for more details...</font>

You do not need the memos. Most likely these memos were added as a little "teaser" to people who still had the golden pantaloons from BG1, also got the silver pantaloons from BG2 and still had no clue as to what for these are (like me). So while the "thing" for what these were needed was not yet in the game (ToB wasn't made yet) - but probably was planned - the scroll was added, with the message that you should always keep the pantaloons. Curious but dubious people would then keep them for sure, and in the end, a reward was given.
As for importing the Golden Pantaloons, then these are the ONLY items you actually CAN import so, that they remain with you. Basically all you need to is to have them on your char at the end of BG1, then import him/her, and the Golden Pantaloons will be available in that trapped painting in Irenicus Dungeon, where that golem is, pretty much right when the game starts. There's the Minor Healing potion, +1 dagger and the pantaloons. |
