In the forest north of the mines is a large stand of trees, shaped kind of like a large U. Inside is a dead guy with a writ beside him. Good luck.

I am stuck I plowed through the first three dungeons, Crypt, Serpent Temple, and Shuregeon Castle, but I don't have the writ to get into the Stout mines which seems to be the next place I have to go, and I can't find it anywhere. None of the NPCs I can reach or talk to seem to have it or know where to get it.
