Is there any way to stop Faldorn and cronies attacking the party? I keep ending up with all bar my PC dead.... :S

What are you doing to cause them to attack you? More details please.

Yes,normally there should be a one on one challenge between Faldorn and a druid from your party.

My party wanders in and takes on the trolls that the druids are attacking, then Faldorn says something like 'Destroy the strangers!' and then the whole mob attacks!

And I dont think you can prevent the fight, you can only make it easier. Help the trolls to defeat them, attack them while the trolls do.

Whack the druids while they attack the trolls.This should make them easier.
Also I found that Jaheira's insect summoning spells make short work of any spellcasting encounter.Do try them!

Hmmm... no Jaheira in group! She had a mild accident with a troll some time back....

Well, not having Insect Summoning spells will put you at a disadvantage against enemy spellcasters-there is no saving throw, they always cause damage, and those affected can't cast spells.

If you have any Potions of Absorption, this fight would be a good time to use them. Also, use all of your buff spells (Def Harmony, Haste, Bless, Chant, Draw Holy Might, etc etc etc), and if you have any mages, they can disable those druids with Chaos, Dire Charm, Symbol-Fear etc.

You can use Cernd for the insect summoning spells...
