Thieves are great I cant believe I didn't realise how good they were sooner. I have just started soloing an Assassin and Ultimatly wanted him wielding Celestial fury. So as soon as I had finished Irenicus's Dungeon I thought I would go and try to pick pocket it only to realise that they are hostile as soon as you entered the room so I couldn't do it, but I thought seeing as I am here I might as well see how I measure up and I couldn't believe it Playing Solo with a LEVEL 14 Assassin on Core difficulty I beat the Slave Lords.
I did it by luring them down the stairs to where the monsters are summoned as soon as the Slave lords are down stairs run to the bottom of the screen and until you can no longer see them and ignore them. They and the monsters will start fighting once the monsters are defeated start setting traps(Groups of 6 rest if need be). Lure one of the slave traders over to the traps(This should hopefully kill the slaver) and then run into one of the rooms and hide in the shadows. The over slavers should run after you into the room, now because you are hidden you can run out of the room and then out side the building and rest to get back your traps. Now go back inside and repeat the process untill they are all dead. Now if that isn't easy XP I dont know what is. |
great, im going to play through as a assasin when i can find my disks. i wasent sure which kit to pick. does the loss of some skill points make much difference?

Thieves are useful characters, but powerful... well, that's debateable. Don't forget, thieves are quite limited in what they can do, and certainly are the weakest class by the end of the game. You can have a lot of fun hiding in shadows/backstabbing or disarming traps and picking locks, but that is where it ends. Still, they are one of the most suitable classes for soloing. But it will be very hard, nonetheless. I wish you luck.

I dont think that the lack of points is going to be a problem for me
(But that is because I am intending to dual class to a fighter as soon as my backstab multipliergoes upto *7 - I only wanted a backstabbing, trapsetting fighter) |

i want to be a pickpocket, what kind of skill level do you need for that?

That way you have a greater chance of being able to steal things. |
no my Mistake I was actually Lvl 12 when I beat the slave Lords.
Now level 15 firkraag lies dead (traps are brilliant - I think I may have been more suited to a bounty hunter rather than an assassin, but never mind I will soon have that *7 backstab multipier and assasinate ability(TOB). |
It seems there is no end to theif fun. after some creating and tweaking i created a lvl 9 monk/13 theif and life is real good. goo armor class rating especially with the +5 human skin armor and ring of protection and a +2 buckler. that with blade of rosess cloak of reflecting and boots of speed, i am having a ball.
Coral You ever see that tv add with the two models in the desert and then a car drives by kicking dust all over them and then drives off?? I am the guy in that car =) |
I, too, had my Assassin Dual to Fighter at Level 21, right when my Backstab went to x7. Sadly, that's before your ToB abilities kick in, so no Assassinate/Set Spike Trap/Use Any Item for you. A big problem with my character was when I got my Thief abilities back, the computer forgot how many points I'd put into each of the skills--I lost about HALF of the points in each one, and I don't even remember what they were before I Dualed! Aaaaargh! Damned bugs! It's a pain in the ass, but oddly enough, I didn't mind so much, because in ToB, half your enemies cannot be Backstabbed (Even when you're Stealthed, Improved Invisible and Non-Detected, they always know right where you are), and luckily my Elven Mage/Thief had over 100% in everything.
