Cernd cannot hit the bad druid lady with a quarter-staff even if his life depended on it! how else can i defeat her if jaheira died in irenicusus dungeon??

Change to animal form, shapeshift.

Sir Goulum 02-07-2002 10:38 PM

the little bugs she summons still eat me alive

Cernd should have a bevvy of spells at his fingertips. Memorize the following ones: Miscast Magic, Summon Insects, Flame Sword (at least two of these), Barkskin (cast it at the beginning on him), Call Woodland Beings (good to have a nymph for a backup), and Iron Skins (if he has it), and put the remaining spells into healing. Summon the insects at her first thing, then Miscast Magic. While she's fighting off the bugs, cast Flame Blade and go to town on her. Call in a nymph for assistance. I've always been able to take Faldorn down in just a few rounds using this, with minimal damage to Cernd.

Cheers,

When you fight Faldorn, you cant use Cernds spells, only Faldorn can cast spells.
My tactic is, shapeshift to a werewolf at once, and start run around. That will lower the chance of her bug-spell succeding.
Now, go and attack her with all of your powers.
This will take her pretty easy.

see ya!

get rid of her spells, then cast some offensive ones like disease or something like that which hurts here once every half turn. This will stop her from casting spells. Then shapeshift into a bear and kill her. The bear can slaughter her before she gets a chance to change into a panther and heal herself.

Just shapeshift - out of interest I tried with both of them, Jaheira and Cernd.
If you´re fast enough with your shapeshift it´s no problem - you are *first* and she seems to have a quite bad AC so nearly every hit succeded in my case. With Jaheira I shapeshifted into a bear and even then I was able to kill her on my first try.

There's one simple thing though - you can let the PC to "command" Cernd and let the fight go on like that. Interestingly, that way Cernd is suddenly much better fighter then he is when commanded by you, he basically shapeshifts into werewolf and simply beats the bejezus outta Faldorn, no questions asked. I once went there and thought - let the Cernd fight on his own, without me "driving" him, if he gets beaten, would be cool to see what happend next. So I chose some dialogue option, I don't remember which, and the fight went on automatically, I was just watching it.. And as I said, Cernd suddenly "gathered the guts" and smacked Faldorn pretty hard, and fast. Crikey, if he only would be as resourceful when in my party heh

EDIT: forgot to add the combat details. Basically, Cernd had nothing really on him other then the stuff he comes packed with (MAYBE he had some STR belt also on him, what I added, don't remembe that). He didn't even cast any spells, he simply shapeshifted, ran to Faldorn and started to whack her for 30-35 damage per hit. After some 4-5 hits, Faldorn bit the dust and the fight was over. Whoah baby Cernd, late potential?

Whailor: Wow, I never would've thought the little gimp had it in him! I'll have to try that next time I run through the grove!

My sure-fire strategies for defeating Faldorn are many, but here are the basic facts which they hinge upon. Hint one: spells, scrolls and potions affecting you are not dispelled when you enter the pit. So first order of business is to buff your druid! Potion of Speed, Potion of Defense, Potion of Regeneration. In Jaheira's case, add a Potion of Some Giant Strength, a Potion of Invulnerability, and a Potion of Heroism. (NOTE: you can buy most if not all of these potions at the Potion Lady's Hut).

Next, disrupt her. Memorize your own bug spells, particularly Insect Plague. Cast this as the first thing you do in the pit! It won't hurt her, since she is regenerating and has her Ironskins up, but it'll prevent her from throwing bugs at you.

Now cast Doom, Poison and (if you're not Cernd) Flame Blade. Feel free to cast a Summon Insects around now -- the Insect Plague spell will soon wear off. Casting Miscast Magic after Doom but before Insect Plague wears off is helpful, too.

Hope this is helpful!

Somebody mentioned running arond as a way to escape insects, but I know it's never worked for me--the little buggers can follow me right through solid walls. Happily, the spell is usually cast at my Tank, so I CAN run away to some extent--get away from the bad guys, shut a door behind me if possible, sit there and take damage myself (keeping away from the other party members, so they don't catch it too. Wait for the spell to wear off, heal, come back pissed.
