Okay, I 'accidently' had a Glabzeru (sp?) chasing me through
the Temple District. This somehow upset the Church of
Lathander because they became hostile. In self defense, I
killed all the Lathander gang (except one..the healer still

I pillaged the place and have the statuette. What's it for?

hmm... never found that before. although my guess is that it has something to do with a Priest of Talos stronghold quest.

That's wierd. All I have is a fighter and a sorcerer. No,

still, it would be there likely. if your main character isnt a priest of Talos, i dont suspect there to be any use for it. of course, thats just my suspicion, i could be wrong...

Remember Mae'var asks you to steal stuff for the his first mission? If you are non-evil, you just have sneak into the Talos temple to get the necklace. If you are evil however, he will ask you to steal the statuette from the goody-two shoes Lathander people; and you will end up slaughtering all of them because there is a undisarmable alarm on the cupboard holding the statuette.
