Aerie started hitting on me almost immediately but I've decided that I'd rather romance jaheira, if I start being a little cold to her will she back off or will she leave in a huff? Thanks for any advice I'm still a bit unsure how the whole "romance" thing works.

dont be mean or she WILL leave, and permanently, not just back to the circus.

their flirting can be concurrent. eventually one will force you to choose between them. pick jaheira but in the nicest way or she'll leave. then you're free and clear (and she'll stop whining too).

Yeah eventually a conversation will happen where they say something like How weak Khalid was and how you are not like that.
And Jahera will warn you to let the girl down gently mearly remind Aerie that you two are just friends and she will get all upset and then you and Jaheria can kick it.
Personally the easiest way is to just get rid of Aerie thus there is no competition and so everything is fixed !.
