I have been playing this game for 2 months and still dont know,please help!!!1

Left click on their portrait and hold it down, and a box with arrows on each end appears, drag up to the position you want the npc in and let go

So where the portraits are is how they are leaders like
My Portrait (Leader)
Jaheira (Lietenant)
And So On,Thank You Man!!!!!!!!!1

The result is that you and that NPC swap places in the movement fomations. And in case you were wondering, that doesn't make the NPC the main character...
