I'm thinking of playing SOA as an archer.
What race?
What proficiency?

I have played an archer as a half-elf, and my proficienses was:
long bow: +++
two-handed weapon style: ++

For my archer I picked:

Short Bows: +++++
Halberd: +
Later I picked up Two-Handed Sword, Two-Handed Weapon Style and Quarterstaff.

But the important thing is the Short Bow. There are so many awesome short bows in SoA: Tungian Bow, Bow of Tacheron, and Gessen Bow, to name (and probably misspell) three.

? Because of that one measly +1 THACO you want to sacrifice 9 Hp?

I dunno, but I rather just use a good old Human archer, besides the THACO can easily go below -20 with the right equipment. With -20 THACO, you will only miss when you score a critical miss.
