Every time there is a room full of monsters etc i just cast it and close the door. Simple. I killed Lavok and the troll king without even being hit. It's a powerful and useful spell.

I combine it with Web and Greater Malison (to improve the effects of Web) to get rid even of Beholders.

or throw in some animate deads to hold back the baddies while the cloudkill is running.
