I am trying to make a Dual-class fighter- mage. I made the character a fighter
to begin with and then started the game. As soon as the actual game began I
tried to dual-class the character but it won't give me the option. Do I have
to escape the initial dungeon before I can do this? HELP PLEASE!!!

Did you make your character human? Only human characters can dual into a different class, while only non-human characters can be multi-class.

Have you chosen a character that is human, 'cause only humans can dual-class. Then a second option is, you might have to level up before you can dual, but I'm not sure about that. Use CLUA-Console XP cheat, level up and test if you can dual at say 2 levels higher then your current. If it not helps, let me know!
