it doesnt seem to me that katansa are very good, even if they are 1d10 1 handed weapons, theres not that many magic ones, and they dont go past +3, and never have extra abilites, bastard sowrds seem to be the best to me, or maybe long sowrds, but I just dont really like those.

The second-best weapon in the game is a katana +3 called Celestial Fury. The only other one which is useful is the Zerthblade available with the Collectors Ed.

There are more longswords, but they only go up to +3 as well. There are not many good bastard swords in SoA (though there are in ToB).

While there isn't alot of great katanas CF is one of the best weapons in the game hands down. I wouldn't go katana with more than 1 character but I also would try to make sure at least 1 person can use CF.

oh i had forgotten about CF, for some reason I was thinking it was a 2 handed (????) I still like bastard sowrds tho like the Doomblade or someithng, 2d4(must be special, normal B sowrs are 1d8) with +5

...Well, on first sight the Equalizer only goes up to +3 but is actually better than that against certain alignments. And other good long swords in BG2? Daystar, Blackrazor... (though the last one very late in the game). I always preferred Long Swords over Bastard Swords in BG2 actually...

Good point, Grolj. Also, the only 1H melee weapon that goes above +3 is Crom Faeyr (a hammer). The rest are all 2H weapons like 2H swords and halberds.

And if you are ranger and havent installed all patches you can use Valygars katana, its +2 i think, but extra poison and maybe sth. else.
