to be honest, I don't even bother with the lower resistance spell. My fighters just hack them up and usually don't take very much damage. My last party had a PC Barbarian with Celestial fury, Minsc with Daystar and Anomen with the Flail of the ages and Jaheira with the girdle of hill giant strength and the scimitar of speed. (plus nalia and aerie, who didn't do much of anything when demons showed up. I chewed through every demon I met, pretty much.
