Some people who had freeze up problems took some options outta the loop like hearing footsteps, weather, Transparent Shadows, etc...and this free up more room for your PC to operate more fully. I had to take out some of those things. There was a long post back a few months ago about this. Everyone was amazed at how much better their games were afterward. Give it a try, and tell us how it goes, please!

Do you play in 800x600 resolution?
Anyway, seems like video adapter problem to me...
I can be wrong, but this helped me in the same situation - turn off 3D support in adapter options and see whether game stops to freeze. If it does, then something should be done with adapter.

Or the game could consume your computer's resources.. When the game crashes, click the right mouse button over My Computer. Then go to Performance, and see how much resources you have free.

Cheers for the help guys, i turned off the 3D settings and it works fine now, anyone know if there is something i can do to stop it crashing with 3D settings on, as i'd like to take advantage of 3D eccelaration.

the 3D settings are useless. Only reason I can run them is I have a P4 1.5Ghz and they don't really add anything to the game.

Another useless thing you can switch off is EAX (in your Game Options panel).
