I was on the internet at the site www.baldursgatehaven.com when i came across a picture of a dark elf that would work well for a dark elf character im making i corrected its size to width 110 pixels height 170 pixels which is correct so far but using my manual i cannot work out how to get it to work from there on in if anyone has actually got themselves their own portrait could you please explain as i know as much about computers as a two year old knows about nuclear physics ( and thats an under statement ) so could you put it in very basic and easy to understand information ( move mouse (funny oval thingy with a wire coming out of it)to bottom left of screen and click on button labeled start) and so on, thanks a lot.

After you've made sure the portrait is the right size, which is 38x60 for small portraits, and 110x170 for large ones. Save the two portraits using a name of up to seven letters, then add an S for the small portrait and an L for the large portrait. Otherwise, the names have to be similar.
So, you would get 1234567S.bmp and 1234567L.bmp, 123S.bmp and 123L.bmp or something similar.
When saving the portraits you should also make sure that the colours are 8-bit to 24-bit. This can be set by moving the slider whilst saving, directly below where you type the filename.

After creating and saving the two portraits, go to the directiory in which you installed BG2, for example: C:\Baldursgate2. Then you may have to create a new folder, and name it Portraits. The directory may aslo be there already. Copy the two files to the Portraits directory and run BG2. If you create a new character and are chosing the face, press the "custom" button and a screen will appear in which you can pick the portraits.
