I purposefully went through the game twice with no help. If you want to look at me bad for wanting less drudgery the 3rd time around so be it. If anyone understands and wants to help, your advice would be very much appreciated.

It's your game, and it's your time spending on it, and noone, NOONE may tell how you should play it - with/without cheats or whatever else. That is only one right way of playing any game - while you're enjoying the game, it's right.

As to your question, I'm afraid I can't really help, sorry. But I think TeamBG (www.teambg.com) has some utilities for removing expCap.
