I'm stuck on the 2nd level of Watcher's Keep (the level with the huge
fan and the caged demon). Does anyone know how to retrieve the
scepter keys, esp. the one needed to put the fan on the highest
setting? This business of getting the slimes to follow me into
the room with lightning isn't doing the trick.

First, kill the air monsters. A key is on one of their bodies. (set air on low) Next, Go to the slime room. Once again, the key is on the body of one of them. Use the air(on high) to blow the gas into the Ice chamber before attempting to defeat the ice people. Kill the Ice people, ge the key, and turn off the air, so the gas will leave the room. Next, lure the fire guys into the ice room.
How's that?
