Hello *,
I have bad performance when loading a multiplayer saved game on my PC as server for BG2. For a two PCs multiplayer game, we need a bout 2 min to complete the loading on both machine, mostly on the server part ! Anyone else has this kind a problem ? Or is this just normal, the amount of data to load is just huge ? I tried to add more memory to speed up, but ... not really efficient. My config (server) : Tbird 900 512 Mb SDRAM 133 HD 20Gb 7200 Geforce 256 LAN 10Mb/s (IPX) client config : Celeron 500 256 Mb SDRAM HD 10 Gb TNT2 LAN 10Mb/s (IPX) |
Hello
I've got some information that may help. I have seen similar game loading times on a Duron 850, but noticeably faster times with my Athlon 1200, meaning the game loads in about 20-30 seconds, tops. But that IS a little more processing power than an 850 or 900 MHz processor, which is what loads the game into memory. Also, the distance between the 2 computers is a slight factor, as the server must send all the game info into the other computer, and has to wait for the other computer to receive it. Since the other computer is only a Celeron, and only running at 500 Mhz, it could be the bottleneck. So I've tested my computer (Athlon 1200) at a further distance from my friend's computer (5 minute drive) and it loaded faster than when I had a multiplayer session running off of the Duron 850 in the next room (at my friend's house again). Therefore, most likely the bottleneck is going to be your processing speed in regards to loading the multiplayer game. |
Thanks for the data. Well, I am going to try again with - an increased amount of cache in BG2 config (let's try 600Mb), both on server & client - 100 Mb ethernet boards - DVD access on server, in case of the loading need some access to the media (I don't think so, I performed complete install, but well) I will see if it helps a little bit or no ... |
