I'm not 100% sure, but if I remembered correctly, if you go hostile against Lord Firkragg in the Copper Coronet, he will get angry and teleport out of the place. Apparently, you can't kill him there.

Not sure if it means you'll be unable to do the Windspear Quest. :/

Summon critters to keep him busy, while your warriors hit him. Give your best warrior the dragon slayer (you should have found it in Windpear). Cast magic resistance on the dragon, this will lower his resistance to about 20%. Then cast lower resistance to lower that further. Personally, I like to sent a mage with stoneskin to get his attention and then have my warriors and critters hit him. Eleentals seem to work best. Also haste everybody up and cast fire resistance.
